PileSight
LiDAR stockpile volumes on iPhone
PileSight measures the volume of stockpiles such as gravel, sand, soil and aggregates with the LiDAR sensor in iPhone Pro and iPad Pro models. Walk a loop around a pile, confirm its boundary and base, and get the volume with a quality grade, optional mass from a bulk density you enter, and PDF, CSV and 3D exports.

Which devices work?
Measuring needs a device with a LiDAR sensor: iPhone 12 Pro or later Pro models, and iPad Pro (2020 or later). On other devices the app explains this and still lets you open and review existing results.
Getting a good scan
- Walk a full loop around the pile at 1–4 m, keeping about 1 m of ground in view all the way round.
- Tilt up to capture the upper slopes and the crest from safe ground.
- For piles taller than about 2 m, stay about 1 m from the toe and hold the phone up high. The LiDAR reaches only about 5 m.
- If the app says the pile shape is not fully captured, tap Resume scanning and cover the part it mentions.
- Never climb a stockpile or enter machine operating zones.
How accurate is it?
Every result carries a grade from A (strong) to D (review required), with the reasons shown. Accuracy depends on lighting, surface, coverage and the base surface you choose. Results are estimates, not certified survey measurements.
Mass and density
PileSight never assumes a density. Enter the bulk density of the material for a stockpile (in kg/m³ or t/m³, set in Settings) and the app shows the estimated mass.
Where is my data?
Everything stays on your device. You can export reports and data with the Share button, and the app's folder is visible in the Files app. See the privacy policy.
